Compression gas spring, also known as gas strut, gas lift springs, gas dampers or gas shock absorbers, are devices that use the energy of compressed gas to generate a mechanical force. Among all kinds of gas springs, compression type gas springs are the main ones. In the industry, they are widely used to provide counterbalance to open lids or doors, and to help users in ergonomic adjustment of their seating and work environment.

Parts Composition of Compression Gas Spring

Compression gas spring typically consists of a cylindrical steel body filled with highly charged nitrogen gas and a high viscosity oil mixture. Other components include a valve system and a seal system. Depending on the engineer's design, the latter two components are either integrated in the cylinder or externally placed.

Operating Principle of Compression Gas Spring

Compression gas springs operate on the principle of compressing the gas and subsequently releasing it in a controlled way to provide a pre-defined level of force. When compressed gas is contained in the cylinder of the compression gas spring, the inherent spring force provided by the gas is created. As the gas is released, the spring force is limited by the valve system, which is calibrated to precise requirements.
